Below are a few examples of the quality and scope of work that Gloweth carries out.
Client: Royal Cornwall Hospital (RCH) Trust
Project: Ward Refurbishment
Type of Work: Controlled Demolition
Contract Status: Main Contractor
We were called in by the RCH Trust to provide diamond drilling contractor services needed to complete a series of controlled demolition works on the hospital site.
Working within the basement of the hospital, work centred on changing the use of a ward which had previously housed the Nuclear Medicine Department and its X-ray equipment. As a result of these changes, a 300mm thick protective wall running through the corridor required demolition.
We used a combination of diamond core drilling and crushing to remove the wall without noise or vibration.
This job would not have been possible without the use of diamond drilling and demolition techniques because of to the location of the site within the lower levels of the hospital. All work was completed within a matter of days and without disturbance to the staff or patients of the hospital.
Client: Royal Cornwall Hospital (RCH) Trust
Project: New Dialysis Unit
Type of Work: Diamond Drilling Holes
Contract Status: Sub Contractor
We were called in by another local building company to work as a sub contractor providing diamond drilling services to their team working on a ward within the main hospital. Working across a 5,000sqft area, the team on site needed to drill over 100 holes to allow for heating, electrical and ventilation cables and ducts.
The ward had reinforced concrete walls and floors, so it was necessary to call in the services of a specialist diamond drilling and sawing company. Because the work was within the main hospital complex, it had to be carried out with minimum levels of disruption to staff and patients on the site.
All work was carried out with low vibration / low noise equipment that has vacuum attachments which suck up the water and waste debris as the holes are drilled. The equipment has jets that spray water at the drill bit: this turns potentially harmful dust into a harmless paste that is easy to remove. Overall, the work was carried out with minimal noise and vibration, and without the generation of harmfull dust.
Client: Cornwall College
Project: Widening of Lift Shaft
Type of Work: Track Diamond Drilling and Sawing
Contract Status: Main Contractor
The Cornwall College site in Pool, near Redruth, needed to extend the current openings and doors for a new lift to be installed within the main tower building. Openings needed to be precision cut in the reinforced concrete walls within a short period of time.
Using diamond drilling and sawing equipment mounted on tracks inside the lift shaft itself we were able to provide a low noise and low vibration cutting service. All diamond drilling and sawing services were carried out by remotely operated equipment allowing operatives to work throughout the day without the risks of Hand Arm Vibration (HAV) damage.
Scaffolding was erected and used within the lift to allow operatives to access the openings at all levels.
Client: Cornwall County Council - Brannel School
Project: Removal of Old Foundations
Type of Work: Track Diamond Drilling and Sawing
Contract Status: Main Contractor
As part of a new construction project (building a new music suite for the school), we were required by structural engineers to remove and replace a foundation to support new structures. The existing foundation needed to be cut flush with a remaining wall to allow for new wider foundations to be poured.
Using a track diamond saw we were able to cut the foundations flush with the remaining wall with minimum noise and vibration.
All work was carried out on a normal school day without disruption caused to staff or students on the site.
Client: Cornwall County Council - Newquay Junior School
Project: Reception Refurbishment
Type of Work: Ring and Diamond Drilling and Sawing
Contract Status: Main Contractor
This Cornish school is still housed within an original granite walled building, making alterations difficult and expensive without the use of specialist diamond drilling and sawing equipment. A project to modernise and redevelop the school’s reception and entrance areas required many of the existing doors to be widened or moved as well as new under floor drainage to be added.
Using a ring saw and diamond sawing techniques we cut new openings in the 600mm thick granite walling with low noise, vibration and dust - while the school remained open as usual
The end result left the school with better access, improved layout and refurbished areas to house the headmaster’s office, reception and toilets.
Client: Armed Forces Recruitment Centre
Project: Adjoining Walkway between buildings
Type of Work: Handheld Diamond Sawing
Contract Status: Main Contractor
The recruitment centre needed to provide an undercover walkway between the existing and newly added buildings on the site. The original building featured 600mm stone walls which needed to be cut to form an opening leading into the new walkway adjoining this with the new building added to the site.
Using handheld diamond cutting techniques we cut through the solid stone walls without major noise or vibration allowing the office to continue in occupation throughout the work.
Client: ARC Addington Trust
Project: Barn Conversions
Type of Work: Handheld Diamond Cutting
Contract Status: Main Contractor
Working on a project to convert 3 barns into 5 residential dwellings we were required by the architects to cut a number of new windows into the stone walls of the original barns.
Using handheld diamond drilling and sawing equipment we created a number of new openings in the walls which varied in thickness from 600-700mm each. Each window needed to be precision cut to avoid any extra time to make each opening good after cutting.
The finished job was an outstanding success and as the pictures show the work was worthy of royal approval.
Client: Residential Customer
Project: Bathroom Ventilation
Type of Work: Diamond Core Drilling
Contract Status: Day Rates
The client required a 4 inch hole to be drilled into a solid granite wall 600mm thick ready to house new ventilation for their bathroom.
We precision drilled the hole within a couple of hours with little disturbance and no dust.
The client was very happy to have the job completed at such excellent value for money and with a clean and precise finish.
Client: The Tregenna Castle Hotel
Project: Landscape Lighting
Type of Work: Diamond Core Drilling
Contract Status: Day Rates
This hotel wanted to provide lighting to recently installed outside granite steps leading between the hotel drive and gardens.
Using diamond core drilling equipment, we provided precision cut holes within the retaining walls illuminating the new feature steps from both sides.
Client: Falmouth Diversl
Project: Remote water level measurement at dam
Type of Work: Diamond Core Drilling
Contract Status: Day Rates
The client was appointed by South West Water to install a remote water level monitoring facility. To achieve this, a 250mm hole had to be drilled through the 350mm thick reinforced concrete dam wall.
Working outside at a work site with difficult access, we used diamond core drilling equipment to form the required hole at 45 degree angle. The work was completed safely, quickly and cleanly and with the accurate placement required for the remote monitoring equipment.
